Reopening Announcements

July 5, 2020 - Pool Reopening
JCC Members,
We are happy to announce the outdoor pool will open on Tuesday, July 7th for lap swimming and open family swim. The schedule has been modified and family swim will require a reservation with several family swim sessions available each day. Please see the hours of operations below.
To be clear, the confirmed COVID-19 case at the pool does not impact the operations or the staff in any other area of the campus. We continue to practice all appropriate sanitation practices as prescribed by the CDC and Douglas County Health Department.
The timing is truly unfortunate and we recognize it may have impacted your weekend plans. It is a reminder to us all that the COVID-19 pandemic remains a focal point and we all need to remain vigilant.
The JCC Staff is committed to keeping you informed about the COVID-19 pandemic and all that we are doing on campus to address it here. Please visit our website and download the J App to receive information about upcoming hours and openings.
This is a reminder that our Fitness Center, Summer Camps, Child Development Center are still open and unaffected by the news of the outdoor pool closure.

July 4, 2020 - Announcemnet
Outdoor Aquatic Facility Currently Closed
We will make an announcement as to the re-opening date as soon as we can.

Unfortunately, a member of the JCC Lifeguard staff has contracted the COVID-19 virus based on a positive test. As part of our COVID protocols, we immediately contacted the Douglas County Health Department to confirm our response based on the facts and circumstances.

Based on guidance from the Health Department, we are currently investigating those that would have been in close contact. If you were at the pool anytime between Wednesday, July 1st through Saturday, July 4th AND were within six feet for more than 15 minutes with a lifeguard, please follow the “CDC Guidelines for Close Contact”.

During our closure the entire outdoor aquatic area will be thoroughly sanitized and cleaned. All areas of the pool have been regularly sanitized daily since we opened on June 8th . We will continue with those protocols.

We want to report that this individual was not in contact with the Fitness Center, Pennie Z. Davis Child Development Center, J Camps, Sports Camps and Dance Camps or Dance Classes.

As soon as we get authorization from DHHS we will provide the membership with a date we will reopen. The safety of our employees and members come first. We will continue to support this lifeguard as well as those who may need to self-quarantine. This is extremely unfortunate timing, but safety is our #1 priority.

Thank you for your understanding.

Covid Announcements

May 17, 2020
Dear JCC Members,

We’re getting close to announcing the full details of our reopening plans! Please watch your email and our website for updates. As of now, I can share the following information with you. We will share the fine details of these plans as they become finalized. Please remember that all plans and dates are tentative and subject to change.

PHASE 1

Phase 1 will begin June 1st. Campus access will ONLY be granted to children registered for Summer Camp and to students of the Pennie Z. Davis Child Development Center. No other individuals (outside of our staff) will be allowed in the building during this time. Both Summer Camp and the Pennie Z. Davis Child Development Center will be implementing modified programming with new practices and procedures in adherence with state and national guidelines for Covid-19. Parents, please watch your email for details regarding these new protocols.

PHASE 2

Dates for Phase 2 will be announced soon. This phase will include private personal training sessions and limited access to the Phil Sokolof Fitness Center. As much as we will love having you back, we can’t welcome you all at the same time. We will be enforcing a strict limit on the number of individuals in the facility at one time. To stay in adherence with state and local guidelines, the Fitness Center will have capacity limits. Access to the Fitness Center will be available by reservation only. Complete instructions and how to reserve a time, as well as additional safety protocol will be communicated soon.

PHASE 3

Dates for Phase 3 will be announced soon. We are awaiting finalization of formal guidelines from state and local officials in regards to the functioning of swimming pools.

As I’ve said before, we greatly appreciate your patience as we navigate this uncharted territory. Please continue to watch our email updates. Many things have changed over the last several weeks, but our commitment to you has not. Your health and safety, as well as the health and safety of our staff, remains our number one priority. You are a part of our family. We are your JCC.

– Mark Martin, JCC Executive Director

May 10, 2020
Dear JCC Members,

This past week the JCC staff has continued to work on our reopening plans. It is an enormous undertaking. As you know, we are much more than just a fitness center and reopening our facility involves more than simply unlocking the doors and turning on the lights. It takes a tremendous amount of logistical planning, made additionally difficult by the unknown nature of the situation.
We have seven main departments, each providing programs and services to individuals of all ages. As we continue to develop our reopening plans, rest assured that we have each and every one of you in mind. From the infants and toddlers at the Pennie Z. Davis Child Development Center to our older adult members, our goal is to protect you.
The implementation of our plans will include following all formal state, local, and Center for Disease Control guidelines. These protocols will be enforced campus wide, with many departments having additional measures put into place based upon participant age and type of service or activity being offered. We will share the specific details of these plans with you as they become finalized.
We know this is a challenging time. We greatly appreciate your patience as we navigate this uncharted territory together. Please continue to watch for email updates and surveys from us. We want to hear any opinions or concerns you may have. We value your feedback and we are taking it into consideration as we move ahead.
Many things have changed over the last several weeks, but our commitment to you has not. Your health and safety, as well as the health and safety of our staff, remains our number one priority. You are a part of our family. We are your JCC.
May 4, 2020
JCC Members –

At this time, our facility remains closed. We are awaiting formal state, local, and Center for Disease Control guidelines to help us finalize reopening plans. Watch for email updates and surveys from us over the next few weeks as we gather more information to move ahead. We can’t wait to safely welcome you back!

March 26 - Membership Options
March 26, 2020

JCC Members –
On March 16th we made the difficult decision to temporarily close our building due to the covid-19 pandemic. Our original intent was to re-open April 1. Unfortunately, state and local agencies are now telling us that is no longer advisable. While we miss seeing you and can’t wait to welcome you back, for the time being our facility will remain temporarily closed.

With the temporary closure of our facility, we have received many questions regarding the payment of membership dues. Given the uncertainty of when it will be safe to reopen, we have established the following options regarding membership. Options are based on how your membership dues are currently paid and will go into effect this April. For full details please see the payment category, listed below, that pertains to you.

Full Pay Memberships

Full Pay membership refers to those who have already paid their membership dues for the full year – all at once, in advance.
Full pay members will have two options regarding their membership dues. If we don’t receive your preference by April 10th, 2020, option one will be selected for you.

OPTION 1: Continue Membership & Donate
• Your membership remains active.
• No action is required regarding your account.
• Your 2020 dues have already been paid in full.  Any dues pertaining to the time period where we were closed and no services were rendered will be considered a tax-deductible donation used to support the JCC and its staff.
• We will acknowledge your generosity with a tax letter.

Full Pay option 1 will keep your membership active and allow your dues to financially support the JCC and our staff during this difficult time.  Dues for which no services are rendered (during the temporary closure) can be considered a tax-deductible donation. We will provide a tax letter.

Full Pay Members click here if you wish to confirm your selection of OPTION 1
If we do not hear from you by April 10th, 2020, this option will be selected for you.

OPTION 2: Continue Membership & Forward Credit
• Your Membership will continue
• You will receive a credit on your next renewal statement for the amount of months missed
• You must inform us by April 10th, 2020 if you wish to select this option

Full pay members that wish to pause their membership during the closure must let us know.  These members will receive a credit on their next renewal statement for the time we are closed beginning April 1st. For example: If the JCC is closed April 1st through April 30th, a family membership will receive a renewal letter with a $126 credit applied to their 2021 dues.

Full Pay Members Click here to select OPTION 2

Month to Month Memberships

Month to Month membership refers to those who pay their membership dues on a monthly basis.
Month to month members will have three options for their membership dues payment during the closure (effective as of April 1st)
If we don’t receive your preference by April 10th, 2020, option two (membership freeze) will be selected for you.

OPTION 1: Continue Membership & Donate
• Your Membership remains active
• Your monthly dues pertaining to the time period where we are closed and no services are rendered will be considered a tax-deductible donation used to support the JCC and its staff.
• We will acknowledge your generosity with a tax letter.
• You must inform us by April 10th if you wish to select this option
Monthly Members click here to select OPTION 1

OPTION 2:  Freeze Your Membership
• Your membership will be paused until we re-open.
• No action is required regarding your account.
• You will not be charged any dues while your membership is frozen
• If you have already contacted us to freeze your membership, you do not have to contact us again.
• The normal $10 Membership Freeze Fee will be waived
• Your membership will be automatically reactivated when our facility reopens.

Monthly Members click here if you wish to confirm your selection of OPTION 2
If we do not hear from you by April 10th, 2020, this option will be selected for you.

OPTION 3:  Cancel Your Membership
• Your membership will be canceled
• No dues will be charged once the cancellation is processed
• If you choose to rejoin at a later date, enrollment & processing fees WILL apply.

Monthly Members click HERE to select OPTION 3

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us at jccmembership@jccomaha.org.

We thank you for your patience and support during this time.

Stay healthy,
The JCC Membership Team

It has been an unprecedented day. Since we’ve made the difficult decision to close our buildings, commit wholly and uncompromisingly to community health, and deploy our resources to support the inclusive community in important ways – your support of us, of one another, and of the Omaha area has been awe-inspiring. Thank you for the opportunity to make the right choices, communicate accurately and efficiently, and build a strong foundation for continued service.
It is our intent to re-open April 1. Given the uncertainty of these times, if we are unable to do so, we, with the support of our leadership, have established these guiding principles for membership dues, tuition/enrollment fees, and program registrations:
Membership Dues – JCC Membership is a diverse and engaging experience. Even with our buildings closed we continue to explore ways to serve the community, engage our members, and deliver a unique experience for all. General members will have three options for the membership dues payment effective April 1st, 2020:
  • Continue to support the critical work, inclusive mission, and professional staff of the JCC through your ongoing membership. This will include access to our new Virtual J programming to be rolled out later this week.
  • Freeze your current membership account, starting April 1st at $10/month, and re-activate your membership without penalty upon the building’s reopening. The JCC must be notified for any membership freeze by March 27th.
  • Cancel your membership by March 27th, and incur any applicable rejoining fees upon re-enrollment.
JCC Pennie Z. Davis Child Development Center Enrollment and Kidz Inn After School Care – Recognizing the direct and community wide impact of building closures, JCC families will have the option to
  • Apply the remaining half of this month’s already-processed enrollment charge as a credit in a future billing period
  • Direct the remaining half of the March’s enrollment charge as a tax-deductible contribution to the JCC’s Staff and Service Sustainability efforts.
  • Additional communication on these options will be sent directly to impacted families.

Effective April 1st, no additional tuition charges will be processed for the JCC Pennie Z Davis Child Development Center and/or JCC Kidz Inn After School Care – Families will have the option to direct enrollment charges as a contribution to the JCC’s Staff and Service Sustainability efforts.

Additional communication on these options will be sent directly to impacted families.
Program Registration Fees (classes, events, training sessions, etc.) – Any current program fees, where the identified program will not be rescheduled, or otherwise delivered online or in a virtual environment), that have already been collected will be credited to your account for future use. Requests for membership freeze, cancellation, or additional inquiries should be directed to
JCC Membership at jccmembership@jccomaha.org.
We know that being a member of the JCC is more than access to a building. We believe that membership is about the connection to one another, a shared vision for the future, and an investment in the values we share. During this interruption, we are working tirelessly to better understand the financial implications of our community’s response to COVID-19. We recognize this is a challenging time, complicated by the pace of change and new information, while balancing the needs of a community and service to our members.
We want to thank those members, partners, and leaders who have already demonstrated their commitment to our mission and staff. We are blessed to partner with members and users who recognize that our staff family delivers exceptional service, with a tremendous amount of heart and expertise. Your enthusiastic support enables us to compensate our staff members at this time.
We also want to take this opportunity to thank those individuals, organizations, and institutions who have joined us in this active commitment to community health. We encourage everyone to recognize the severity of this moment, prioritize the needs of our at-risk communities, and insist on bravery in making the best choices based on the best, expert guidance.
In the days ahead, the JCC staff team will be ramping up our new Virtual J, with online resources, content, and engagement opportunities available to our members. If you have an idea, want to connect with community members, or otherwise want to explore ways to demonstrate our values and celebrate our community (in the most social-distancing-sensitive way!) please reach out to us.

Dear Omaha Jewish Community and JCC Members,
As this health crisis continues to evolve and impact communities across the globe, we are adjusting to unprecedented restrictions on our daily lives. The safety of our community and staff is always at the forefront of every decision we make.
Beginning at 6:00 p.m. today through March 31, the Jewish Federation of Omaha and its family of agencies will amend operations to best protect our community – residents, members, and staff. All facilities and buildings will be closed to the public.
The Rose Blumkin Jewish Home will continue to operate with current visitor restrictions. The JCC and the Child Development Center will be closed and their staffs will be working remotely and answering questions as needed. Jewish Family Service, ADL/CRC, IHE and other agencies will also be working remotely and available by cell phone. Whether or not the Jewish Press will be printed during this time is yet to be determined.
In addition, only required staff will be permitted on campus. Other staff will work remotely as needed. The main phone line will direct callers to the specific departments.
We believe this is the right action for right now. We will continue to provide updates as needed and will re-evaluate our plans daily.
At this time, we anticipate the renovation project construction will continue.
Please feel free to call any of us with questions or to email covid-19update@jewishomaha.org. We are preparing an FAQ and will share that link this week.
Stay well. We appreciate your patience and support during this challenging time.

In response to the recent Omaha news that a positive case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and two presumptive positive cases (relatives of the first case) have been reported in Nebraska:

To date, we have no known exposure on our campus.

RBJH is closed to all non-employees until further notice. RBJH does NOT have COVID-19 in the facility but the virus can be deadly to the elderly. As their trusted care providers, we are doing what we feel is necessary to protect their well-being.

We will continue to follow good health practices across our campus and ask that you do the same at home:

  • If you are sick, stay home!
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick.
  • Wash hands often. Wash for 20 seconds with soap, rub between fingers and under nails; and then rinse and dry. Use alcohol (60% +) hand gel if sinks are not readily available.
  • Practice and teach children proper coughing/sneezing etiquette. Cover mouth and nose with the crook of your arm. Or better yet, cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Avoid touching or rubbing your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Clean and sanitize frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Always consult with your medical professional if you have questions or concerns.

In addition, we have increased our efforts to sanitize touch points – door handles, bathrooms, fitness equipment, etc. We have asked employees to wipe down their desks, phones, and interior door handles as well.

At this point, there is no plan to stop the work we are doing. This decision will be re-evaluated frequently. Should the decision be made to cancel an event or to close an agency, information will be available on the JFO website and Facebook page.

While the risk for contracting the virus remains low, we again ask you not to visit our campus if you are displaying any symptoms of respiratory illness – cough, fever, sore throat, runny nose, and/or shortness of breath.

The Douglas County Health Department has established an information line for questions – 402.444.3400. This line is manned Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Additional information is also available on their website – www.douglascountyhealth.com.

The Jewish Community Center of Omaha is a safe space where everyone is welcome. We ask that all Members and guests adhere to the following policies and procedures while on campus. If you have questions on any of the following, please contact Member Services at (402) 334-6426.
